It will come as a surprise to many in the football fraternity, but coach Jamal Sellami is facing the axe at Raja Casablanca.
According to a reliable source close to the Green Eagles, the club is seeking the possibility of appointing a new coach before the end of March.
Sellami has since been put on the backburner as the club management has set up a meeting later on in the day to determine his fate.
It is believed that part of the reasons why the management is concerned is drop off the pace, with no wins in four Morocco Borola 1 League games.
The latest humiliation was recorded on Sunday when the Green Eagles suffered a 2-0 humiliation at the hands of arch-rivals Wydad Casablanca.
“The management is not happy with the results and obviously when the club is not doing well the coach is always the victim,” the source tells Ducor Sports.
“The coach has been asked to excuse himself from the club activities. He is as good as gone”, he added.
Raja Casablanca are second on the table- three points adrift log leaders Wydad Casabalanca, with a game in hand. Third placed OC Safi are also closing the gap with the Green Eagles as they are four points behind.
As for Sellami replacement, Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco is the early favourite. He has not had a club since leaving Zamalek a fortnight ago.
The Portuguese man was in charge of the Cairo giants in 26 games, winning 16 while losing four, most notably against arch-rivals Al Ahly in the Champions League final.
The Green Eagles management feels he’s the best prepared for the change of cycle Raja need. Infact they wanted to appoint him in January but in the end Zamalek placed a barrier to his move.
Pacheco would like to sign a long-term contract but at the moment a one year plus one year contract is on the table due to the expected changes in the club’s board next summer.
