Ricardo Soares Arrives In Cairo To Start As Al Ahly Coach

Portuguese coach Ricardo Soares arrived in Cairo on Wednesday morning to be unveiled as the new coach of Egyptian Premier League giants Al Ahly.

There were several club officials at hand at the Cairo International Airport to welcome the gaffer who arrived in company of his agent.

The former Gil Vicente coach is expected to hold meetings with the Al Ahly president Mohamed El Khatib and the club’s board of directors on Wednesday evening.

He will be unveiled on Thursday and will outline his plans for the Red Eagles in the ongoing Egyptian Premier League and the upcoming Egyptian Cup semi-final fixture.

He will then be officially presented at a press conference to be held at the club secretariat on Thursday  afternoon.

The 47-year-old has signed a two-year deal to take over from South African Pitso Mosimane who parted with the club mutually.

Mosimane had led the Red Devils to three CAF Champions League finals in a row, winning both the 2020 and 2021 editions of the competition.

He had also led the team to two consecutive FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals, two CAF Super Cup victories, in addition to an Egypt Cup and an Egyptian Super Cup coronations.

Several coaches of Rui Vitória and  Nuno Espírito Santo were competing against Soares  for the top job which is currently held by Sami Komsan who is acting as interim coach.
