Romain Folz: Amazulu Confirm Appointment Of Former Marumo Gallants Head Coach

South Africa Premier Soccer League side Amazulu have confirmed the appointment of Romain Folz as their new head coach.

The Frenchman takes over the club from Brandon Truter who was shown the door following drop in form of the Durban-based club, and speculation about internal divisions among the players.

Usuthu has lost their last three Premiership games with the most recent being their 1-0 KwaZulu-Natal derby defeat to top-flight newcomers Richards Bay last Wednesday.

“AmaZulu Football Club is proud to announce its appointment of Romain Folz as Head Coach. Ayanda Dlamini will serve as his assistant,” the club said in a short statement.

Folz was previously in-charge of Marumo Gallants a position that he left after reportedly being asked to accept a demotion in front of first team squad.

The 32-year-old coach had served as Uganda assistant coach, the same role he played at Egypt’s top-tier side Pyramids FC. He has also coached Ashanti Gold in Ghana and Township Rollers in Botswana.

The former coach Truter had impressed since taking over the reins following the departure of Benni McCarthy in March. However, the current season proved difficult and left the team lying on 9th position with just 11 points from nine matches.

Folz’s first game in charge will be a Dstv Premiership match against Orlando Pirates that will be played on October 14 away at Orlando Stadium.
