RS Berkane Beat Wydad Casablanca To Lift CAF Super Cup

Renaissanse Sportive Berkane grabbed a 2-0 win over Wydad Casablanca to lift TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup.

Two-time winners Wydad fell to goals from Cherki El Bahri and Sofian El Moudane in annual playoff played at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Casablanca on Saturday night.

The African Super Cup pits the winners of the African Confederation Cup against that of the African Champions League winners.

It was all Wydad a for large parts of the opening exchanges, as the likes of  Arnese Kaiku and Boly Sambou were causing a number of problems for the visitors.

Berkane signalled their intentions early on as Mamadou Camara unleashed a powerful header that was plucked out of the top corner by goalkeeper Ahmed Tagnaouti.

The Oranges did manage to breach the Wydad goal line when Cherki El Bahri connected Hamza El Moussaoui’s cross with a powerful header to make it 1-0.

Berkane struggled to find their rhythm and created very little in front of goal in the closing minutes of the first half.

It was more of the same in the second half and Berkane doubled their lead in the 71st minute, thanks to a well taken penalty by Sofian El Moudane, 2-0.

Berkane took their foot off the pedal after that and cruised to a rather comfortable win.

Wydad Casablanca were poor on the day and offered very little in attack.
