RS Berkane Linked With Florent Ibenge For Head Coach Position

Following his unexpected sacking from AS Vita this week, Florent Ibenge has been linked with a new shock job.

The Congolese trainer, 59, was relieved of his duties by the Black Dolphins on Wednesday morning following personal differences with the club’s hierarchy.

While it was reported over the weekend that Ibenge was unlikely to still be in charge of Vita next season, his firing did surprise many as it came a day before DR Congo football association dismissed the club appeal over fielding an ineligible player in the local league.

After being shown the door, the former Shanghai Shenhua and Democratic Republic of Congo national team manager told journalist that he does not need a break from football, leading to much speculation as to where he could coach next.

A fortnight ago, RS Bekane parted ways with coach Juan Pedro Benali after only three months of his appointment.

The Berkane’s board was annoyed and disappointed yesterday after the team lost against archrivals Wydad Casablanca, hence taking immediate action to sack the Spaniard.

Other coaches that Berkane could consider for the vacant coaching position include Rodolfo Arruabarrena, Sebastien Migne and Alain Giresse.

Ibenge had an usually long nine-year tenure in charge of the Congolese side, a position that he once doubled with Leopards managerial job.

While at Vita, Ibenge led the Black Dolphins to two CAF Interclub Cup finals, notably 2014 African Champions League and in 2018 African Confederation Cup.
