Ruthless Wydad Casablanca Thrash Kaizer Chiefs

Wydad Casablanca defeated ten-man Kaizer Chiefs by a huge 4-0 margin in one-sided African Champions League match played at 4 August Stadium on Sunday.

It was a second Group C match for both sides; Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by Horoya while their opponents Wydad registered 1-0 away win to Petro du Luanda.

Wydad opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Mohammad Ounnajem guided home a loose ball as Chiefs defenders failed to organize their backline.

Chiefs were presented with a chance to score an equalizer, as Samir Nurcovic’s attempted lob was denied by Ahmed Tagnaout.

The Emperors shot-stopper was called upon in the 37th minute, as he did well to keep out Lebogang Mayama’s effort from 12-yards out.

Wydad doubled their lead a minute before half-time as Ayoub El Kaabi headed in past Itumeleng Khune on the far post.

The home side were looking to add to their lead and they were nearly rewarded shortly after the break when Ellafi sliced his effort wide of the mark.

With Wydad leading, Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt brought Philani Zulu and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo on the hour-mark, as they searched for an equalizing goal.
However, the Moroccans added their third goal with second half substitute Simon Musuva lobbed over goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune following poor defensive work.

Kaizer Chiefs were dealt a blow when their skipper Ramahlwe Mphahlele was given his marching orders after handling the ball inside the box.

Fauozi Berzarti’s men made it 4-0 with Yahya Jabran converting the spot-kick to round off a impressive second win at group stages.
