Former Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol has confirmed he is interested in succeeding Ernst Middendorp as coach of Kaizer Chiefs.
Krol is currently managing Kuwait SC but with Chiefs announcing they are in hunt of a new gaffer, the tactician has expressed his willingness to return to South Africa.
“I have a clause in my contract that any club that wants me [will] have to pay a sum of money to get me, then I can go,” Krol said in an interview with South African publication, Kickoff.com.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “For me, there’s always interest in coming back [to South Africa] but one of the reasons [I haven’t yet] I don’t know why, maybe don’t want me or they don’t like me or whatever. I leave it at that.” [/perfectpullquote]
The Dutch mentor previously had a stint with Absa Premiership outfit Orlando Pirates where he won three major trophies with the Buccaneers in his final season with the team.
“I loved my time, it was a good time for me, although it was not an easy time for me. I loved the country, I loved the people, and that for me is very important for me to do my job,” Krol explains.
“After I left South Africa, there’s always lots of talk about me when a coach is sacked and I hear people demanding for me but until now I’ve never had talks with [Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates]. That’s why I say they must not want me or they don’t like me. For me, it’s not a problem to come back.”
Krol is well known in African football having previously coached Tunisia national team and also Egypt Olympic team as well as various North African topflight clubs.
The much traveled coach was also once a manager of AC Ajaccio in France Ligue 2 from 2006 to 2007 before he joined Egyptian giants, Zamalek, at the same capacity in August 2007 having previously managed them from 1994 to 1999.
Former Netherlands World Cup captain has coached several Morocco and Tunisian sides among them Esperance and won the domestic league and cup.
Kaizer Chiefs began the search of a new coach on Wednesday following the departure of Ernst Middendorp.
They finished second on the league standings last season behind Mamelodi Sundowns, which secured them a spot in next season’s African Champions League.
