The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has confirmed the start date of the 2020/21 domestic season.
According to a statement from the football governing body, the 2020/21 season is set to kick off on December 4 with teams having undergone strict Covid-19 protocols.
Though a previous date of October 30 was initially issued by the League, CAF recently announced November 9-17 as Africa Cup Nations qualifiers resumptions dates, and that forced the shift a further four weeks.
FERWAFA has also pencilled in the playoffs of the men’s second division league which are set to be in a single knock-out format.
The playoffs will be played from November 13-21 in Kigali, with the two finalists automatically earning promotion to the Rwanda Premier League.
Peace Cup competition has also been planned in the FERWAFA Competitions Calendar and it’s expected to kick-off on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
FERWAFA also committed to releasing the fixture at the earliest possible date as member clubs would need to circumvent travel restrictions regarding current difficulties with road travel restrictions.
Rwanda league was halted in March owing to the effects caused by the coronavirus pandemic and could not resume after the country remained under lockdown.
However, in August, FERWAFA approved the competition calendar for the new campaign and also scheduled some of the competitions which had been postponed owing to Covid-19.
It is worth noting that in May, APR were later declared champions as they were leading the league log when the season was suspended.
Heroes FC and Gicumbi FC were consequently relegated from the top-tier to the Second Division League based on their standings.
