Senegal’s Sadio Mane has for long harbored the dream of winning Africa’s best player award.
The Senegalese skipper narrowly missed out on the gong to teammate Mohamed Salah in the CAF awards held in Accra January this year in what was his second straight nomination for the prize.
Opening up when posed with the subject, the ex- Generation Foot forward said: “I do not give up. Honestly, it’s a dream and I hope to win it someday. I do not give up and the work continues.”
El Hadji Diouf is the only ever Senegalese to scoop the accolade twice.
The 26-year-old who captained Senegal in the Russia World Cup has been linked with a move away from Anfield with European champions Real Madrid believed to be his preferred destination.
Switching gear to take on the rumours surrounding his future, Mane insists no offer from the Spanish giants has reached his desk.
“These are just rumors. I’m not aware of anything and we have not been contacted for that. I remain a Liverpool player and I will join my teammates in the United States for the pre-season tour.
“Real Madrid are a great team, but I am focused on my team, Liverpool,” he said.
Mane and Salah were the sole Africans involved in the Uefa Champions League final months ago.
