Said Ali Said Athouman has been elected president of Comoros Football Federation (FCF) for a four year tenure.

He got the nod at the elective General Assembly of FCF held in Moroni, ending the two-year term of the normalization committee that was appointed by FIFA to run the island nation football.

Athouman won a unanimous vote of the 62 delegates and succeeds Salim Tourqui who resigned in November 2017 – throwing the federation into a leadership crisis.

The election was supervised by FA’s Africa delegate Veron Mosengo-Omba and Confederation of African Football executive committee member Souleiman Hassan Waberi from Djibouti.

Athouman, former executive director of the EEC (Comorian Water and Electricity), has promised an enhance direction for football in the East African island during his tenure.

The 56-year-old, however, is not new to FCF having held the same position at around 2018-2019 before his suspension by the National Ethics Commission after he was found guilty of abuse of power.

Comoros, who have never qualified for the African Cup of Nations, currently find themselves 130th in the FIFA World Ranking having never gone higher than 127.
