Salah: Winning Best Player Award for Second Time “Really Huge”

Egypt’s forward Mohamed Salah has described scooping Africa’s Best Player of the Year as a huge achievement.

Egypt’s forward Mohamed Salah has described scooping Africa’s Best Player of the Year as a huge achievement.
The former Basle FC and Chelsea attacker fend off competitions from English Premier League golden boot contenders Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane to retain the gong he won last year.
And voicing delight after being declared winner, the forward, considered the fifth most expensive player in the globe, said critics doubted he will win the gong at the first time of asking.
“I am proud and very honoured to be nominated for the second time. It was not obvious, for the first time, I was told that it was not going to happen and it’s done and this year, we had to confirm and that’s good. As a child, I always dreamt of the Best Player award, but winning in two consecutive years is really huge.”
“These titles I will share with all those who contributed to my football training, my coaches,” he said.
Salah last season clutched the Premier League player of the year including the African version staged by the BBC with this latest silverware to add to his growing trophy cabinet.
Already, he is on 13 goals one behind joint-top scorers nemesis Aubameyang and Harry Kane.
The CAF award is voted for by technical directors and head coaches of affiliate national associations.
