Samuel Eto’o: Africa Should Dream of Winning the World Cup

Former Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has challenged African nations to allow themselves to dream of winning FIFA World Cup.

Former Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has challenged African nations to allow themselves to dream of winning FIFA World Cup.

In a radio interview on Tuesday morning, Eto’o said African countries have the necessary component in the quest for ultimate success.

Providing Tunisia as an example- which he thinks will perform well in Qatar- the legend said; “Mentalities must change. We are not inferior to anyone.”

“Tunisia has all the means it takes to qualify and not play to participate. This is a great team that can win the World Cup. What we lack in Africa is self-esteem,” he said.

Since Egypt first played in the World Cup in 1934, the best Africa has done is reach the quarter-finals. Cameroon did it in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.

Meanwhile, the former Barcelona and Chelsea star said that Qatar is ready to host this event, given the quality of its sports infrastructure and that the next edition will be the best in terms of organization.

He was speaking in a video conference that was transmitted via Tunisia radio station Mosaïque FM.

In addition, Eto’o said that the Arab Nations Cup, which will be hosted by Qatar next year, will be an opportunity to discover new talents among local players of the various Arab countries.
