Samuel Eto’o Cleared To Vie For Cameroon FA Presidency

Former Barcelona Samuel Eto’o is among presidential aspirants who were Thursday cleared by the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) electoral committee to vie for the FA’s presidency.

Eto’o, accompanied by hundreds of his supporters ,had presented his papers last week seeking to become the next football boss for the Central African nation.

Other candidates who were cleared are incumbent Seidou Mbombo Njoya, Jules Denis Onana, Crepin Soter Nyamsi, Justin Tagouh and Zacharie Wandja.

Fecafoot electoral committee failed to clear former international Emmanuel Maboang Kessack indicating that he owed the federation USD 7,600.

Another person who was turned back is Manuel Boyomo for failure to provide the required number of endorsement letters.

Fecafoot elections are expected to take place on 11 December, with the Africa Cup of Nations set to start in Cameroon on 9 January.

They were fears that Eto’o could not be cleared to vie for the presidency as he holds two passports; one for Cameroon and another for Spain.

Eto’o retired from football in 2019, after scoring more than 350 goals across his club career, winning the Champions League twice with Barcelona and once with Inter.
