Zambia, Senegal, South Africa, and Guinea have all qualified for the U-20 AFCON semi-finals ahead of the 2017 U-20 World Cup.
Zambia will face South Africa on Wednesday 8th while Senegal faces Guinea on Thursday 9th for a place in the final.
Zambia is highly favored following its outstanding group stage performance that racked up all nine points with 10 goals – the highest in the tournament – after beating Guinea 1-0, Mali 6-1 and Egypt 3-1. The young Chipolopolo key players, Daka and Sakala are leading the charts with four and three goals respectively in the high scoring CAF tournament.
South Africa will have a huge task ahead of them when they face Zambia in the semifinals. The team finished behind Senegal in Group B with 6 points after beating Cameroon by 3-1, Sudan 3-1 but lost to Senegal 3-4 however, leading man Singh tops the team’s stats with four goals.
Senegal finished top of Group B with 7 points after a 1-1 draw with Sudan, 4-3 win over South Africa, and a 2-0 win over Cameroon. Diatta, Diagne and Niane are all tied at two goals each
Guinea finished behind Zambia in Group A with four points after a 1-1 draw with Egypt and a 3-2 win over Mali with Morlaye Sylla leading the team’s stats with two goals.
Guinea will be expected to take more chances if they hope to have a chance at the finals especially with the tournament producing these many goals. The team goes into the semifinals with the least number of goals – four compared to opponents Senegal who have nine.
