Senegal Announce Provisional AFCON Squad

Senegal have announced their 25-man provisional squad for the next month’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Egypt.

Senegal have announced their 25-man provisional squad for the next month’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Egypt.

The Teranga Lions coach Aliou Cisse has included three English-based players in his squad, namely Sadio Mane, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Cheikhou Kouyate.

Inter Milan star Balde Keita has also been included in the squad. Senegal are set to begin their AFCON campaign on 23rd June against Tanzania.

Goalkeeper Dialy Kobaly Ndiaye has been included in the squad after his impressive performance at the recent Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger.

The 19-year-old takes the place of injured first-choice keeper Khadim Ndiaye who is nursing an injury which he sustained in April after colliding with his teammate during a Champions League clash for club side Horoya AC against Wydad Casablanca.

Club Bruges forward Diatta, also 19 years old, has been included in the preliminary squad which does not have any home-based player.

The squad will be trimmed to 23 before the tournament kicks off in June.

The Lions of Teranga will also square up against Algeria and Kenya in Group C in next month’s showpiece.
