Senegal’s Coach Sees AFCON Final as a Debt

Aliou Cisse views the Africa Cup of final as a debt to be paid.

Aliou Cisse views the Africa Cup of final as a debt to be paid.

Cisse was a skipper in the Taranga Lions outfit that lost to Cameroon on penalties in the 2002 Nations Cup.

Aliou squandered a spot-kick on that occasion and seventeen years on, the 43-year-old feels need to make up for that by guiding the West Africans to finish as champions.

‘This is one of the reasons why I see this as a debt, and to pay it by getting us the cup,’ he told a post-game briefing following the 1-0 slender win over Tunisia.

The AFCON final is billed for 19th July 2019, two days after the third-place encounter between Nigeria and Tunisia.
