South Africa Premier Soccer League side Free State Stars have settled for Serbian tactician Nikola Kavasovic as their new coach.
The former Township Rollers and AFC Leopards mentor will be assisted by the homegrown duo of David Vilakazi and Selaotse Mosala.
Confirming the new development, club’s general manager Rantsi Mokoena said: “We really took our time in searching for the new coach, we made sure we choose the right man for the job.”
“The coach brings vast experience to our league, having coached Botswana’s Township Rollers and recently for the very first time in their history, Rollers qualified for the Champions League.”
Kavasovic was spotted on Monday by Ducor Sports crew in Bethlehem and as predicted, the Serbian has been handed a two-and-half-year contract and will be unveiled later this week.
“He is a strong believer of youth players and what I also liked about the coach is that when he was introduced to the players he knew their names,” added Mokoena.
Kavasovic takes over from Luc Eymael after the Belgian had his contract terminated last month due to a string of bad results.
His first assignment will be to produce a good result in Ea Lla Koto next fixture on January 5 at home against fellow Premier Soccer League outfit Bidvest Wits.
This will be Kavasovic second job in less than three weeks as left Kenya’s AFC Leopards having sought for leave to attend to his sick father.
