Simba Claim Bragging Rights In ‘Kariokor Derby’

Goals from Gerson Fraga, Clatous Chama, Luis Josee Miquisson and Muzamiru Yassin helped Simba to a 4-1 Azam Sports Federation Cup win over rivals Yanga.

Goals from Gerson Fraga, Clatous Chama, Luis Josee Miquisson and Muzamiru Yassin helped Simba to a 4-1 Azam Sports Federation Cup win over rivals Yanga.

It was a positive start to the game by the Msimbazi Reds who created their first chance on goal in the opening minute of the match when Pascal Wawa broke into the box but saw his 14-yard shot superbly saved by Metacha Mnata.

Simba continued to dominate the possession stakes after that, but they lacked imagination in the final third and struggled to fashion any more decent chances in front of goal.

Yanga could have gone ahead 15th minute but Bernard Morrison could only fire into the side-netting from close range.

Simba started dictating play as Francis Kahata and John Bocco were looking lively in the middle of the park.

They went ahead on the 21st minute when Brazilian forward Gerson Fraga ran on to the ball from Clatos Chama before sending a thunderous shot past Mnata to make it 1-0.

Fraga almost grabbed his brace three minutes later. Mnara spilt Pascal Wawa’s shot from range into the path of the midfielder, who failed to put away the rebound as the goalkeeper made the block.

Yanga’s only other decent effort of the half was a long-range shot from Deus Kaseke which sailed narrowly over the crossbar in the 42nd minute.

The start of the second half saw the Msimbazi Reds applying more pressure and they extended their lead in the 49th minute.

John Bocco broke into the right side of the box before squaring for Chama whose shot from 14 yards out went into the back of the net, 2-0.

Sven Vandenbroeck’s men continued to bombard Yanga’s goal and extended their lead through Luis Josee Miquisson on the 52nd minute.

Yanga, however, drew level in the 70th minute, as Faisal Salum converted Papy Tshishimbi’s free-kick after putting enough pressure from 14 yards.

At the other end, Juma Abdul did well to foil a Francis Kahata flick-on following a long throw-in by Mohamed Hussein.

Jafary Mohammed should have reduced the deficit for Yanga in the 75th minute but the skipper dragged his effort wide of the mark from close range.

Muzamiru Yassin made it 4-1 and effectively ended the contest in the 89th minute with a clinical strike in the box.

Simba will now meet Namungo who defeated Sahare All-Stars in another semi-final clash that was played on Saturday.
