South Africa New Coach Announcement Postponed

While the country waited with bated breath to hear who will be at the helm of Bafana Bafana, the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) has declared the new head coach will announced in few days time.

SAFA technical committee interviewed three candidates namely Herve Renard, Hugo Broos and Carlos Quiroz to replace Molefi Nseki, but it seems the issue has not been finalized following the postponement of the new gaffer’s unveiling date.

In a statement released on Friday, SAFA confirmed to the public that the announcement of new Bafana coach has been postponed due to Covid-19 travel issues.

“The Bafana Bafana coach announcement scheduled for Saturday, 24 April 2021 has been postponed due to global Covid-19 travel issues, “ the football governing body said in a statement.

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused.”

Local trainers like Pitso Mosimane, Gavin Hunt, Manqoba Mngqithi and Eric Tinkler had been linked with the job but SAFA is said to be interested in a foreign coach.

Bafana Bafana will start their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe on June 8 before hosting Ghana the following week.
