South Africa Planning To Play Two Friendlies Before Sao Tome Clash

South Africa’s coach Molefi Nteski wants to play two friendly matches to prepare for their back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome.

The technical team of the Bafana Bafana has impressed on the South Africa Football Association to get those deals sealed before the end of this month.

South Africa will face Sao Tome on 13 November at FNB Stadium before travelling to the islanders for the return game on 16 November 2020.

A statement from the football governing body hints the friendlies in the pipeline will be against COSAFA opponents.

“Bafana Bafana coach is planning to have two friendly matches against COSAFA opponents before taking on Sao Tome in back-to-back Total AFCON Cameroon 2021 qualifiers,” the statement reads.

“Coach Molefi Ntseki has been busy trying to tie down the two friendly matches – one on 7 October 2020 with the other penciled for 11 October 2020 with two COSAFA opponents. He has already identified the two opponents but will announce the names once every detail has been finalized.”

South Africa will be eager for six points that would see his side take a giant step towards the continental finals in Cameroon.

The top two teams in Group C will qualify for the finals, and having beaten Sudan at home already, a pair of wins against Sao Tome and Principe could potentially mover Bafana six points clear of the North African side with only two rounds left to play.

South Africa will round off their AFCON qualifiers in March next year with a home game against Ghana before rounding off their campaign with an away match to Sudan.
