South Sudan Bright Stars are expected to engage the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in an international friendly in Yaounde next month.
The 10th October match is part of the team’s preparations ahead of back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda.
Both South Sudan Football Association and Cameroon Football Federation confirmed the development on their social media pages.
“South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has accepted an invitation by Cameroon Football Federation to play a friendly match against Their National Team A and Bright Stars on the 10th of October 2020 in Yaoundé. SSFA will soon summon the Bright Stars squad,” reads a statement from SSF’s official Facebook page.
South Sudan lost 1-0 away to Malawi and fell 2-1 at home in the second game of Group B against Burkina Faso at the Al Hilal Stadium in Khartoum, Sudan.
Uganda, on the other hand managed to get a goalless draw against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou before beating Malawi 2-0 at the Nambole Stadium in Kampala.
South Sudan thus lie at the bottom of the group with zero points while Uganda leads Group B with 4 points, with one better goal advantage ahead of Burkina Faso who also have the same number of points.
The Flames of Malawi are in third position with 3 points following their opening group game win against the Bright Stars.
The best two teams from each group will qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Cameroon.
