Sports Tribunal Call Off Hearing on Wydad Champions League Appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has adjourned its hearing of Wydad’s challenge of CAF’s decision to declare Esperance Champions League winners.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has adjourned its hearing of Wydad’s challenge of CAF’s decision to declare Esperance Champions League winners.

Moroccan Premier League outfit Wydad were involved in a Champions League final with Tunisia’s Esperance last June but the game got aborted after 60 minutes.

Trouble flared up when Wydad appeared to have equalised but Gambian referee Papa Gassama called for a VAR unaware there was no such arrangement made out for the encounter.

Wydad then refused to play storming out of the game leading the arbiter declaring Esperance winners – a verdict the Moroccans have appealed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

CAS were scheduled to hear the case tomorrow but opted against it owing to the coronavirus crisis gripping the world.
