Sundowns Coach Content With Draw Against Wydad

Mamelodi Sundowns tactician Pitso Mosimane is content with the point his side picked against Wydad Casablanca in their African Champions League Group B clash played at the Stade Mohammed V on Saturday night.

The Brazilians played to a 0-0 draw against their new nemesis Wydad away in Casablanca in a balanced game that saw the two sides coming off with a hard-fought point.

Speaking after the match, the coach said that side failed to utilize the chances that they had in the entire match that would have changed score but is satisfied with the result.

“The game came out the way we expected, a game between Wydad and Sundowns is always like this. If it was a draw I would prefer 1-1 or 2-2 than 0-0, because a beautiful game like this must have goals,” Mosimane said.

Sundowns had lost their four previous visits to Wydad, all by single-goal margins, since their first meeting in September 2017.

“We started better and it was a game of two halves. First half we took it. The last 15-20 minutes they put a lot of pressure on us. But we defended very clean and did not make mistakes, normally we make mistakes,” he added.

The Brazilians had thought they had snatched an early lead just 28 seconds into the match when Leandro Sirino struck a bouncing shot into the net, but the goal was disallowed because of an offside in the build-up.

“We tried to go with speed behind and Wydad was pulling back because we were fast, but that gave us space in the midfield to play and we controlled the game there,” the coach noted.

“If we took the chance we had in the first half with the player one-on-one with the goalkeeper, it could have been different.”

Sundowns now head their pool with four points after two rounds, two ahead of Wydad and their next opponents on December 28, USM Alger
