Brian Onyango hopes to return earlier than expected and play some role in helping Mamelodi Sundowns fight in the title chase.

The 26-year-old picked up a thigh injury during the South Africa Premier Soccer League match against SuperSport United, and Sundowns co-coach Rhulani Mokwena had revealed that the defender could be out for a month.

Sundowns, however, believe that the player has a chance of returning in time to play for the Brazilians, while the player himself harbours some hope of a comeback in time to help his team in Dstv Premiership and African Champions League.

“I have been recovering well. I give my thanks to the medical team for taking good care of me. I can’t wait to be back on the field when I have recovered and help the team,” Onyango told the club website.

We have a target as a team and I do believe with hard work, commitment anything is possible.”   [/perfectpullquote]

The 2016 African champions will take on Al Hilal of Sudan at Loftus Versfeld this Saturday in their first group stage encounter of the CAF Champions League.

“Our focus this week is the Champions League and we want to do well and fight for the second star”, added Onyango.

The Kenyan international joined Sundowns in October last year and fans expect him to shake off a thigh injury before the Al Hilal clash.

So far Onyango as already found the back of the net for the Brazilians when he scored the solitary goal in the win against Orlando Pirates in the first game of the year.

His partnership at Masandawana’s defence Ricardo Nascimento in the heart of the defence has seen him earning admiration from fans and press in South Africa.
