Sundowns Makes Technical Bench Changes

South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed several changes to their technical bench after a dreadful series of poor results.

The Masandawana have made changes on the responsibilities and employment positions of coaches Manqoba Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela.

In a statement the club said Mokwena has been appointed as the club’s new Head Coach while  Steve Komphela has been promoted to become First Team Coach.

“These changes were necessitated by the poor performances and unconvincing victories that the club has experienced for quite some time,” reads part of the statement.

Manqoba Mngqithi is the new Senior Coach, a position previously occupied by Steve Komphela,  whereas Wendell Robinson will stay in his current position as the Goalkeepers Coach.

“Mamelodi Sundowns has a clear objective of becoming one of the most successful football clubs in Africa and its recent average and lacklustre performances are contrary to this objective,” the statement added.

Mamelodi Sundowns  were eliminated from the MTN8 by Orlando Pirates at the weekend after losing 0-3 at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

However, the Brazilians still remain in first place on the DStv Premiership table and have a chance to extend that lead when they visit Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday.
