Sundowns Set To Drop Few Players

South Africa Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns are set to release a few players before the start of the new season.

South Africa Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns are set to release a few players before the start of the new season.

The Brazilians coach Pisto Mosimane was quoted on Wednesday saying that he has identified several players that he wants to offload as he feels they are not fit for his system.

“We will keep the team – we keep the players we have, but of course you’ve got to reduce [the number],” Mosimane was quoted as saying by SowetanLIVE. “There are a lot of players who we are going to give space to leave, but you need to strengthen a little bit.”

“Yeah, I’ve never known any team that says, ‘no, we don’t want any player’. Ask Man City if [coach] Pep Guardiola wants to sign any player. Ask [Barcelona coach] Ernesto Valverde who won the league with so many points if he wants to strengthen. We all want to strengthen,” he added.

Sundowns were declared South African champions for the ninth time on May 11 and are set to represent the rainbow nation in the next season’s Africa Champions League.

“The CAF Champions League doesn’t require the same kind of quality and personnel as the Absa Premier League,” Mosimane concluded.

Two forwards Jeremy Brockie and Cuthbert Malajila, goalkeepers Reyaad Pieterse and Thela Ngobeni, midfielders Aubrey Ngoma, George Lebese, Oupa Manyisa and Lucky Mohomi are rumored to be on their way out of the Tshwane giants.

The 2019/2020 season of Premier Soccer League (PSL) will start with a full round of league fixtures in early August before the MTN8 kicks off.

Most of the PSL protagonists are aiming to return from their holidays by June 24 to follow the customary six-week pre-season preparatory program.
