Sundowns Winger Gaston Sirino ‘Very Close’ To Leaving The Club

Gaston Sirino is reportedly keen to leave Mamelodi Sundowns for Egyptian champions Al Ahly who are interested in his services.

Gaston Sirino is reportedly keen to leave Mamelodi Sundowns for Egyptian champions Al Ahly who are interested in his services.

The latest reports suggest that the recently crowned African champions have upped their offer for players R18 million to R46 million for the striker.

Al Alhy coach Pitso Mosimane stated that the Red Devils are ‘confident’ about signing Sirino though the Brazilians want R92 million for the 29-year-old Uruguayan playmaker.

“All of you guys know that Al Ahly has been asking about Sirino while I was still at Mamelodi Sundowns, it’s a fact,” Mosimane explained to Safja as per Kickoff.com.

Sirino was one of Pitso’s favorite players at Sundowns since joining in January 2018 where he made a century of appearances, scoring 24 goals and registering 29 assists.

“It’s just a perception that I am the one who wants Sirino at Al Ahly because I am in the hot seat now. It will always link to me. I am not angry with it because it has always been there, you know about it, you wrote about it all the time,” added Mosimane.

“I am the one who said to Sirino he should not go and help us win the second star. I was the one. They have always been talking about Sirino over here and it is the first I speak to you guys about it.

“Yes, Ahly want Sirino and they spoke to Sundowns officially and all that, I don’t want to tell you too many things that have been happening. The president of Sundowns was here [in Cairo]. Danny Jordaan told me that Dr Patrice Motsepe was with him, but we didn’t meet, probably because he was busy.

“But you can’t tell me there have never been talks about Sirino at that level, I know because I get the feedback. Sirino wants to leave to come to Ahly.”

Last season, Sirino played 41 games for Sundowns, scoring 13 goals and contributing with 10 assists as they retained the Absa Premiership title, won the Telkom Knockout and the Nedbank Cup to make up the domestic treble.

Sundowns, through their Arab media coordinator Khaled Ali recently reiterated Sirino is not for sale and that they aren’t a selling team before placing a heavy price tag on the winger.
