Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho will be sidelined for six months with a knee injury sustained while on international duties, his club Omonia Nicosa has announced.

The 20-year-old was injured while trying to clear a corner during Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Brazil in a friendly played on Sunday, October 13 in Singapore.

Uzoho left Singapore on Monday for treatment in Cyprus where doctors confirmed that the keeper sustained a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and external meniscus.

Despite the horrifying injury, Uzoho has taken to his twitter handle to thank all his fans and had promised to bounce back strong.

“Thank you all for the kindness. Trust me you all will see a stronger and the best Uzoho Francis when I’m back in a very short time,” he posted on his social media.

His injury comes as a big blow to a fancied Nigeria who will face Benin at home and Lesotho away in their first two games of the qualifiers in November.

This season, Uzoho has made five appearances, keeping three clean sheets for Omonia Nicosia who occupy second position in the Cypriot First Division.
