Nigeria international Chinaza Uchendu has joined Swedish top-tier side Linköpings FC and could feature for the team as soon as gets his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
The 22-year-old joins the club from Portuguese side SC Braga where she has been since January 2018 and will hope she can help her new side improve on their fifth-place finish last season.
Uchendu will now play alongside her Super Eagles teammate Uchenna Kanu, who completed a move to the club on Sunday from Spanish Primera Iberdrola outfit Sevilla.
“With Chinaza and Uchenna, we get two good offensive players that complement and spearhead our team, which also gives the squad better balance and durability,” a club’s statement read.
Uchendu said she was excited to join the club and believes it was a step in the right direction for her career.
“Linkopings FC has always been one of the top teams in the OBOS Damallsvenskan,” the former Rivers Angels striker told the club.
“I like the Swedish league which has both good teams and players, and I like Linkopings FC’s way of playing.
“It fits me perfectly and is good for my continued development as a football player. I really feel that this is a step in the right direction for me.”
The midfielder scored six goals and 14 assists in 18 games in her debut season to help former side Braga clinch the league title in 2018.
Uchendu was part of Super Falcons squad that won 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations where she scored one of four penalties in the penalty shootout that brought the Nigeria women’s national football team the championship.
