The midfielder’s deal was not due to expire until June, but the Tshwane outfit has been left with no choice but to terminate the deal after the player refused any bids from the club to renew his deal in favour of a return to London.

The club released a statement confirming Furman’s departure and thanking him for his efforts on Tuesday.

“SuperSport United FC would like to confirm the departure of Bafana Bafana international and club captain Dean Furman with immediate effect,” read the statement from the club.

During his five seasons at the club, Furman won four medals and captained the side a historic maiden 2017 CAF Confederation Cup final.

The South African-born Furman, who grew up in England, had played for Rangers, Bradford City, Oldham Athletic and Doncaster Rovers before signing for Matsatsantsa in 2015.

Furman has been an integral member of the South African national team, featuring in three Africa Cup of Nations with Bafana Bafana.

The Premier Soccer League season remains suspended because due to coronavirus pandemic and its not yet clear when the football action is likely to resume.
