SuperSport United resumed training on Sunday ahead of the resumption of the South Africa Premier Soccer League, which has been suspended for almost three months due to the coronavirus crisis.
Sports activities have been suspended since mid-March due to the coronavirus, but after 100 days, the government approved plans for Premier Soccer League resumption.
SuperSport United released a statement on Sunday which indicates they have complied with safety protocols set by the health authorities.
“We’re back. A safe and secure first training session for Matsatsantsa as we returned to Megawatt Park,” a club statement read.
The Matsatsantsa players and officials had already undergone the first round of tests and none of them tested positive for coronavirus.
Last week, Cape Town City became the first PSL team to return to training after complying with all the regulations set by the government.
The return date for competitive football is still under discussion but reports indicate the season could resume on July 19 with teams expected to make their way to a biologically safe environment on July 15.
Before the current suspension of football activities due to the coronavirus, Kaizer Chiefs were leading the league table with 48 points after playing 22 matches.
SuperSport United were third on the table with 40 points after playing 24 matches and they will be looking to continue moving up on the standings when the league resumes.
