The Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) has confirmed there will be no professional football in the country, including Premier League, until the end of May.
Initially, the fixtures in the North African football powerhouse were suspended for two weeks, but this has been extended as Egypt continues to battle coronavirus.
The governing body released a statement on Friday after reviewing its stance and ruled out a return for football in the country in mid-May.
“In accordance with the decisions of the Egyptian prime minister, extending a curfew in the country, EFA has decided to extend the suspension of football activities starting from mid of May for another 15 days,” reads a statement on the Egyptian Football Association.
“The decision applies to all grades of local competitions and all categories” the statement added.
EFA has ruled out the possibility of the Egyptian leagues being deemed null and void and said that they have put plans in place to conclude the season.
Egyptian Premier League was suspended on March 14 with Al Ahly comfortably sitting top of the table 16 points above second-placed Arab Contractors.
So far, Egypt has confirmed over 8,000 cases of COVID-19 which shows that the situation is clearly evolving day-by-day compared to 52 cases that were there before the league was put on hold.
Meanwhile in Tunisia, the local federation has put in place plans to start the league in August if they are given a go-ahead by the government.
Esperance de Tunis enjoyed a 10-point lead over second-placed CS Sfaxien when the season was suspended two months back.
In Morocco, the domestic league will restart when it gets the go-ahead from the country’s government, according to a statement released on Friday by the league organizers.
