Guinea on Friday suffered a massive blow ahead of their crunch 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Chad next week after star midfielder Amadou Diawara was ruled out of the contest.

Diawara, who turns for Italian giants AS Roma, went into quarantine on Thursday after testing positive of coronavirus though he had no symptoms.

“Hello everyone, this morning I underwent the swab test upon my return from the national team,” Diawara wrote on Instagram. “Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19.

“I want to reassure all the people who know me, luckily I feel good, but I have to respect the quarantine period.

“I hope to be able to be at our coach’s disposal as soon as possible!”

With Syli Nationale preparing to face Comoros on November 11 at the Stade du 28 Septembre, before travelling away to N’Djamena five days later, coach Didier Six has since named the player’s replacement by calling Ibrahima Camara who turns for Portugal’s Moreirense FC.

Roma signed Diawara in July 2019 from Napolli for a fee of €21 million and his five-year contract will run out on 30 June 2024
