Tanzania Sack Coach Poulsen Following Defeat To Uganda In CHAN Qualifying

Tanzania’s Football Federation (TFF) announced on Monday that its executive council had decided to terminate the contract of Taifa Stars coach Kim Poulsen and his assistants with immediate effect.

In a statement, the TFF said it has appointed Honour Janza as the interim coach and will be assisted by Meck Maxime while Juma Kaseja will be goalkeepers coach.

The move comes a day after Tanzania’s 1-0 defeat to Uganda in their final round first-leg match of 2023 Africa Nations Championship.

The Danish coach Poulsen was appointed as Taifa Stars coach for the second time in February 2021 on a three-year contract replacing Burundian gaffer Ettiene Ndayiragije.

The 62-year-old  previous spell at the helm of the East African side was between 2012 and 2013.

Poulsen was previously also a technical director for Tanzania’s U-17 team that qualified for its maiden Africa Cup of Nations 2017 in Gabon. He was also coach of Tanzania junior teams in 2011-2012.

After two years in Tanzania as Taifa Stars coach, Poulsen returned to Denmark and his hometown of Sonderborg where he was appointed manager of FC Sonderborg on a three-year contract.
