The Indomitable Lions Set Out to Revive AFCON Status

With 8 players pulling out – including key players Joel Matip and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting – prior to the AFCON Games, the Indomitable Lions are still focused on their path to another AFCON victory, since last winning it in 2002.

“We respect all teams but we fear no one,” currently instated captain, Benjamin Moukandjo, told Supersport.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”As players, our focus is to win matches and bring back the glory to Cameroon. We are all excited about the competition and our first aim is to go past the first round. Then we reorganize ourselves from that point onwards.”[/perfectpullquote]

Cameroon a four-time champion, is making its 18th appearance in the tournament (1984, 1988, 2000, 2002) with only Egypt having been more successful with seven championships.

They have only won one of their last eight AFCON games (D3 L4), failing to win any of their last five – their longest drought in the tournament’s history.

However, Vincent Aboubakar will be the man to look out for. One of the Golden Boot favorites and Leicester City target, Aboubakar – currently on loan at Besiktas from Porto – could prove lethal alongside Moukandjo,.
