It is a thin line between qualification and elimination for African teams as three out of four representing countries are within the mark of qualifying for the Round of 16 at the FIFA 2017 U-17 World Cup India.
GROUP A
Ghana is grouped with United States, Colombia and hosts India. Positioned in third on three points, the first African team to register a win in the tournament’s opening game over Colombia – 1-0 – but fell short to the USA losing 1-0, is in search of a much-need win against India and hopes that the North Americans can defeat Colombia.

GROUP B
Mali fell to Paraguay, losing 3-2 in the side’s first game but recovered with a deserving 3-0 win over Turkey to secure three points. The African champions look likely of the three continental teams, to progress comfortably into the next round with a win or draw over New Zealand so long as Paraguay can keep Turkey at bay – draw or win.

GROUP C
Guinea is the only African team stumbling down the bottom of the group stages and with a surprise performance from Iran, there is little room left to recover against a much favored Germany side. Guinea lost 3-1 to Iran, but could not capitalize against Costa Rica with whom it drew 2-2.

GROUP D
The last group to feature an African team, Niger is with Brazil, Spain, and North Korea. The 1-0 win over North Korea could prove crucial despite losing 4-0 to Spain in the following game. Playing for a point against Brazil with hopes that North Korea beats Spain is a less likely possibility. Niger must win and hope that Spain draws to secure a slot in the Round of 16.
