Togo international defender Joseph Douhadji is close to joining South African Premier Soccer League side Bidvest Wits.

Douhadji, who is a free agent, has been training with the Clever Boys for the last two weeks as they assess him with a view of sealing a permanent deal.

The lanky defender has been plying his trade with Turkey’s Ligue 1 side Adana Demirspor, which he joined in 2017, from Nigeria Professional Football League side Rivers United before his contract expired late last year.

Douhadji played 8 league games for Demirspor in 2017/2018, scoring one goal. A return to the competitive league will help boost his career.

It will also come as good news to Togo national team head coach Claude Le Roy, whose defense has not been very solid in recent matches.

Earlier reports indicated that Albanian side KF Tirana were exploring ways to sign the Togo defender, who in the last few months has been offered to teams based in Poland and India but a deal failed to materialize.

The 6 feet 5 inches tall center back starred for Unisport of Kagnikopé before leaving his homeland in search of greener pastures.

Hawks next assignment will be in May, at home, when they host to Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions in an international friendly.
