TP Mazembe Confident Of Passage To Group Stage Of CAF Champions League

TP Mazembe coach Franck Dumas is confident is confident the team will qualify for the group stages of the CAF Champions League as they prepare to host Uganda’s Vipers SC in the second leg on Saturday in Lubumbashi.

A win against the Ugandan in the second leg will earn Mazembe a place in the group stages as both teams played to a goalless draw last weekend.

“We have a good opponent in front of us tomorrow, but we have a very specific objective, it is qualification” said  Dumas in a pre-match press conference.

The five-time African champions are looking to get into the group stages of the CAF Champions League and will hope to do better and than last year when they were relegated to Confederation Cup by South Africa’s Amazulu.

“We are going to try to focus on the intensity, that is to say it is we who are going to decide at what moment the speed of the game, the acceleration because the objective is to take shelter and not to tremble until the end. Everyone would like that, but let’s stay calm and focus on our strengths and we have no doubts, ” the French technician offered.

In Sunday’s first-leg tie, TP Mazembe missed several chances to get an important away goal at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kampala.

They now find themselves in similar position as last year when they drew 0-0 with Amazulu only to be eliminated on away goal rule following a 1-1 draw in Lubumbashi.

The Congolese giants will hope to win the second leg at home on Saturday, with the aggregate winner set to grace the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
