TP Mazembe Sack Coach Mihayo After African Champions League Elimination

Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe have sacked their coach and brought in Draven Cvetkovic to oversee their next game.

Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe have sacked their coach Pampile Mihayo and have appointed Draven Cvetkovic to oversee their next domestic league game.

Mazembe, who were eliminated on a 2-1 on aggregate by Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the African Champions League on Saturday, have lost only one game in DR Congo’s Linafoot league this season.

Mihayo leaves the side at the top of Congolese league standings with 53 points after 20 round of matches.

The 46-year-old had replaced Hubert Velud in 2016 on acting capacity before being handed a long time contract the following year.

A former Mazembe skipper, Mihayo won the CAF Champions League twice with Mazembe in 2009 and 2010.

Cvetkovic, Mazembe’s new gaffer has been with the Ravens since January 2020 when he was roped in to serve as the club technical director.

The 58-year-old gaffer is a former player who played for INF Vichy, Besancon RC before enjoying his best career spells with SC Bastia and RC Lens in France.

He has coached over 12 clubs including Tunisian giants Etoile Sportive du Sahel, helping them win the Tunisian cup in 2014.

TP Mazembe is the most successful club in the Democratic Republic of Congo with 35 titles since their creation in 1966.
