Transfer News: Burkinabe Striker Linked With Zesco Move

Former Asante Kotoko striker Sogne Yacouba is on the verge of joining Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Super League giants Zesco United.

Former Asante Kotoko striker Sogne Yacouba is on the verge of joining Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Super League giants Zesco United.

Ducor Sports understands that the forward has already left Kumasi following the expiry of his contract ahead of his transfer to Zesco United.

A source close to the Zambian league champions has revealed to Ducor Sports that the Burkinabe international has been a top priority for the Ndola-based based football club, who are in search of more players to add to George Lwandamina’s team, as part of the plan to improve the club’s results in the upcoming matches.

“Zesco United are unhappy with the contribution from their (current) strikers this season and could now turn their attention to a striker that was previously linked with a move to Nkana,” said the source.

Contract extension talks between Yacouba and Kotoko fell through in the month of January after the player demanded $150,000, which the Porcupine Warriors were not ready to splash.

The deft left-footed forward who has been in great form has previously been in the radar of several European teams following his impressive displays.

The 28-year-old forward helped the Kumasi based club reach the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in eleven years.

He joined Asante Kotoko on a three-year deal as a free player after parting ways with Stade Malien.

Should Yacouba eventually join the Zambian champions, he would fight for a starting place with John Makwatta and Jesse Were, who have been the key strikers for the Ndola club.
