Tunisia beat Iran 2-0 in a pre-World Cup international friendly match played on Wednesday in Doha, Qatar.
France-based duo of Naim Sliti and Ali Abdi scored in the second stanza to give Tunisia the win over Team Melli, who begin their World Cup campaign against England on Monday.
Tunisia, on the other hand, will open their campaign against Denmark on Tuesday at the Education City Stadium.
Despite the loss, Iran head coach Carlos Queiroz was happy with the performance of his players especially noting that it is only the first match of training before the tournament.
In the first half, it was all Iran with the side creating a chance after a chance to score.
Carthage Eagles were lucky to be level at 0-0 at the break after Iran themselves lost a clear chance that goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen came to the rescue with a powerful left arm to ensure the boys stood a chance despite a poor first half.
Tunisia named their final squad just two days ago and they included the experienced duo of Wahbi Khazri and Youssef Msakni, who started against Iran.
For Iran, they have a balanced, experienced squad featuring a powerful attack and an organised defence, with numerous top stars remaining from Russia 2018.
Team Melli is part of the only group in the World Cup where all teams are in the top 20 in global rankings.
Iran, Asia’s highest-ranking globally at 20, will face England on November 21, followed by Wales on November 25 and the United States on November 29.
