Tunisia, Mauritania Eyeing Redemption

Tunisia will be hoping to register their first win in Group F in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) when they meet Mauritania at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 16h00 GMT.

The Carthage Eagles succumbed to a disappointing 1-0 loss at the hands of Mali on Wednesday and will now want to restore their pride.

Coach Mondher Kebaier and his men are on a mission to go all out and bag a win to ensure their mission to reach the knockout stages remains alive.

Having conceded one goal in the match that was rocked by controversies, Tunisia remain placed at the bottom of the log as they have zero points next to their name.

The duo of Wahbi Khazri and Naim Sliti will be tasked with a role to trouble Mauritania in this must win game.

On the other hand, the Mourabitounes are also under pressure to turn their campaign into a promising one as they lost 1-0 to Gambia.

Coming to this must win match, they must ensure they bury their chances and revive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

Coached by Didier Gomes da Rosa, Mauritania are seen as one of the underdogs, but basing with their good display against Gambia they are now seen as one of teams that can progress to the next stage.

“A timid start to the match, complicated with too much technical waste. We made a lot of mistakes, we paid for it dearly with this goal which came very early,” the coach said after the opening game.

“We’re not looking for excuses, it’s a shame that we missed the start of the game. We are going to look for another game system, another animation to will cause problems for Tunisia during the next match.”

The last time Tunisa took on Mauritania was on 30 November 2021.

Tunisia walloped Mauritania 3-1 in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup Group B match which was played at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in Qatar.
