Tunisia’s Relegation-Threatened Kairouan Sack Coach

Tunisian premier league side JS Kairouan have seen the last of coach Rafik Mehmadi following his sacking.

Tunisian premier league side JS Kairouan have seen the last of coach Rafik Mehmadi following his sacking.

Mehmadi was ushered into the role to help keep the Kairouan-based giants afloat in the North African country’s top tier.

His acquisition for the post was greeted with much excitement amid optimism from fans who hoped they won’t be battling relegation.

Revered for helping morph talents, Rafik got down with work but would, to his utter dismay, find out that the rot at Kairouan is more than he initially thought, going on a stretch of just four wins in sixteen outings –abysmal results even by the gaffer’s own standards.

Against CS Sfaxien last Sunday, the board felt they’ve had enough and opted to hold showdown talks with Mehmadi, a thing predicted in the run-up to last weekend’s whopping.

Sources close to the meeting hint the convergence was a little heated before both the coach and his employers reached the conclusion that walking in varying directions was in the best interest for all as relegation looms.

It’s unclear on what payment plan was agreed but JS Kairouan announced this afternoon they’ve found a new man to fill the void created by the exit of Rafik.

Fathi Ben Ghanem is the man appointed as coach tasked with guiding the side stay up the division.
