Turkey Based Striker Seeks Super Eagles Return

Many years after making his debut for the Nigeria national team back in 2016, former Wikki Tourists midfielder Aminu Umar is waiting for a call to return back to Super Eagles.

Umar, 25, moved to Turkey in 2013 where he signed for Samsunspor and had a spell with Osmanlispor, before moving to his current club Caykur Rizespor in September last year.

In the current season, the forward has scored thrice and made one assist in 18 appearances for his struggling Turkish Super Lig side Rizespor.

Most Nigerians remember him for his exploits with the Dream Team VI in the 2016 Olympic Games where the Eagles claimed a bronze medal.

“My objective is to return to the pitch soonest. The 2021 AFCON and 2022 World Cup finals are two important tournaments the Super Eagles must not miss and I’m confident I would contribute my quota towards ensuring that we qualified for the two championships,” he said.

Umar scored two goals in at the Rio Olympics and was the top scorer at the 2013 U-20 African Cup of Nations.

He played in the Nigeria Professional Football League with Wikki Tourists and featured for grassroots sides Optimum Performance FC Abuja.

Umar made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2016 and has a total of four appearances and he’s yet to register a goal for the national team.
