Tusker Through To CAF Champions League First Round

Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC advanced to the first of the CAF Champions League after edging out Djiboutian moneybags Arta Solar 7 in return leg tie on Saturday.

Tusker defeated Arta 3-0 at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi and advance 4-1 on aggregate.

The hosts came into the game needing a victory as they were held to a 1-1 in first leg played at Djiboutian  City last week.

Sami Kibwana and Ibrahim Joshua scored a goal apiece to ensure the Brewers went to the break with a 2-0 lead. Second half substitute Deogratious Ojok struck in the 75th minute to complete an emphatic win over Djiboutian champions.

The win for Tusker mean they qualify for the first round of the tournament and they will face Egyptian giants Zamalek SC in the next round of qualifying.

Meanwhile, Zambian champions Zesco United have bowed out of CAF Champions League on away goal rule following their 2-2 aggregate draw against Royal Leopards.

The Team Ya Zico came into the match trailing by a goal having lost 1-0 in the first leg and they got a 2-1 win which was not enough to see them to first round of the competition.

Zanaco, who are the other Zambian representatives in CAF Champions League, secured a 1-0 win over over Equatorial Guniean side Akanangui.

Abraham Siankombo scored the only goal of the game that ensured the Bankers progress to the next round 3-0 on aggregate.

Zanaco will meet either Express FC of Uganda or Al-Merrikh of Sudan in the first round of the Africa’s  premier club football competition.

In Blantyre, South Africa Premier Soccer League side Amazulu beat Nyas Big Bullets of Malawi 3-1 in a second-leg match played at the Bingu National Stadium in Malawi on Saturday.

The result meant that Usuthu won the two-legged playoff 3-2 on aggregate after losing the first leg 1-0 in Durban last week.

Amazulu’s  goals came via a brace from striker Bongi Ntuli while veteran Siphelele Mthembu completed the rout in the second half.

Benni McCarthy’s charges will now face five-time African champions TP Mazembe in the first round of CAF Champions League.
