Ugandan Defender Joins Arab Contractors

Uganda international defender Joseph Ochaya has signed a two-year deal with Egyptian side Arab Contractors.

The 28-year-old’s contact with DR Congo topflight side TP Mazembe expired at the end of the 2021/2022 season.

Arab Contractors manager Shwaky Gharib said: “This is an important signing for us. Ochaya is a player who fits our profile well.”

Ochaya had joined Mazembe in 2018 from Lusaka Dynamos of Zambia having also featured for Ugandan Premier League (UPL) giants Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA FC).

The left-back also has previous stints with Vietnamese outfit Navibank Sai Gon FC and Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko.

In Europe, he was at Germany’s SPVGG Greuther Furth in August 2013 while in 2016 he failed to agree on a deal with South Africa’s Bidvest Wits.

Ochaya was part of the Uganda Cranes team at the 2016 Africa Nations Championship in Rwanda and the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

He also featured for Uganda in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and was part of Cranes squad that failed to make it to last edition of the competition.
