Ugandan Cranes and Gor Mahia defender Shafiq Batambuze is pleading for financial aid to cater for his medical expenses.
Batambuze, who sustained an injury while turning for K’Ogalo in the CAF Champions League match against Ange Noir, requires Ksh 400,000 ($ 4,123) for an operation on his left knee.
“I was injured last month and an operation is needed on my knee for me to get better,” Batambuze told Ducor Sports.
“The surgery is a bit expensive for me, I have tried to follow up with my club but since we have no sponsor at the moment, things are a bit tough,” he added.
The former SC Villa and Singinda United player is already in the process of acquiring a Paybill number which will be activated soon by the service provider.
“I want to come back to the pitch and play, and I will be very grateful for your help,” Batambuze concluded.
Batambuze has specifically called upon all Kenyans and Ugandans of goodwill to come forward in large number and help him raise the funds.
It is mandatory for the club to take responsibility of footing players’ medical expenses but the Kenyan side has stated that they are unable to meet Batambuze’s medical need.
“It is our responsibility to treat Batambuze but it is also in the open that the club is facing financial challenges and we cannot deny or run away from such a responsibility,” said Gor Mahia chief executive officer Lavick Aduda as quoted by Goal.
