Uganda In A Do-Or-Die Match Against Morocco

Uganda Cranes are hoping to seal a place in the last eight of the 2020 African Nations Championship if they secure a win over Morocco in their final group match.

Uganda Cranes are hoping to seal a place in the last eight of the 2020 African Nations Championship if they secure a win over Morocco in their final group match.

Currently, with one point in Group C, Uganda will need a win to make it into the quarter-final stage of the competition.

The daunting fixture against group leaders Morocco is scheduled to kick off at 21:00 hrs CAT at the Stade de la Reunification in Douala.

Second-placed Togo will take on Rwanda in the other group game at the Stade de Limbe with both matches kicking off at the same time.

Cranes will guarantee their place in the next round if they can beat Morocco after they were held to a goalless stalemate in their opener by Rwanda before a 2-1 loss against Togo.

No team is guaranteed of qualification yet heading into the final bend of the group stage from this group.

At the team’s pre-match press conference on Monday, Coach Jonathan McKinstry reiterated their desire to win the game and qualify to the next stage of the competition.

“We can beat Morocco by correcting our mistakes,” McKinstry said. “We will certainly have opportunities, the game will be open, and we can hurt them.”

“We have asked the players to put in more effort, work rate and intelligence like they did in the second half against Togo. We have told them there is no quarterfinal for the team until they play and get a result on Tuesday,” McKinstry added.

“We want to write a story for ourselves, the country and everyone back home. The odds are against us but we believe it is possible.”

Morocco will certainly be nervous and will want to score early. How Uganda deal with that will set the tone for the match.

Uganda goalkeeper Charles Lukwago has talked about their target of going past group stages of the competition where anything else can happen after that.

“We are positive and our targets set at the beginning of this campaign are still alive. We shall remain competitive as we head into the final game against Morocco,” said Lukwago.

“I know the challenge ahead but it all goes down to a positive mentality from my teammates when we walk on to the pitch. We want to create a great atmosphere tomorrow [ Tuesday] .”

McKinstry will have a full squad to select his starting line up as there are no fresh injuries in camp ahead of the crucial match.
