Uganda women national team head coach George Lutalo has named a provisional squad of 47 players for the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations.
The team is largely comprised of players, who did duty for Uganda in the first round against Ethiopia. Notable inclusions include Joan Nabirye and Adrine Birungi, who have starred for Vihiga Queens and Gaspo Women respectively in the Kenya Women Premier League.
AFC Ann Arbor’s midfielder Tracy Jones Akiror has also been called up, while Ruth Aturo, who recently completed a move to Finnish side Kotkan Työväen Palloilijat, has also been included.
Uganda were drawn in a tough Group C where they will come up against hosts Morocco, Senegal who are ranked 11th in Africa, and Burkina Faso who are seven places above the Crested Cranes.
The team is set to report to camp on Saturday, 7th May 2022, in Kampala and they will take part in his year’s CECAFA Women’s Championship as part of preparation for AWCON finals.
“As the technical team we have made efforts to look at the players at their respective clubs and we are really hopeful that the team summoned will be able to deliver,” said Crested Cranes coach, Lutalo.
“It is a good chance for us to gauge ourselves and have good preparations for the final tournament. We know this region has very competitive teams that will give us the best challenge.”
