Uganda U-20 national team head coach hailed his side despite their narrow 1-0 defeat against the Cameroon in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Group A match on Friday.
Sunday Jang Junior scored the game’s only goal in the 32nd minute, glancing in a deflected corner into the net for his second goal of the tournament.
After breaking the deadlock, Ousmanou Christophe men team controlled the game at the Office du Olympique Stadium in Nouakchott, restricting Uganda to five shots on target.
Byekwaso says he is satisfied with his side’s performance against Cameroon though he stressed that the Hippos’ offensive reaction should have been more aggressive during the game.
“We might have lost today but I am satisfied with my team. I think we played very well against a tough and physical team. I played against Cameroon in the 1999 All Africa Games and I know what kind of a team they are and we tried to prepare well with that in mind,” the tactician said.
“In the second half we tried to bring in some light flexible players to try and put them under pressure which we did, but unfortunately the chances we had we could not utilize. That’s the difference in football. I salute Cameroon for winning.”
Uganda will now look forward to grabbing maximum points against hosts Mauritania in the final group game on Saturday.
